I hope all of you had a safe and Happy Labor Day weekend . . . this can’t be the end of summer, can it be?! So soon?
As this is being written, we are all disheartened and concerned about another Hurricane headed for Florida . . . Irma looks to be catastrophic so our prayers are with all the people in Irma’s path. Both Texas and Florida++ victims will be needing our help so please be as generous as you can in supporting relief efforts! Unbelievably, Hurricane Jose is yet another one churning towards Florida. We are so fortunate to live in Colorado.
On to more local news, we’re into another election that we all have to pay attention to . . . the Douglas County School Board will be electing four new members this November. There is a wonderful slate of candidates that I hope you will consider supporting with the Three T’s . . . your Time, Talent, and Treasure. Go to www.ElevateDouglasCounty.com to see four great candidates who will stand for: “Renewing Douglas County’s tradition of educational excellence, empowering parents to be partners in their children’s education, supporting and respecting educators, and expanding educational options for students.” Please support Randy Mills, our own Debora Scheffel, Grant Nelson, and Ryan Abresch.
I don’t have to reiterate again how frustrated I am about the political scene in D.C. When will our Republicans start working with President Trump to MAGA!? You’re probably just as annoyed as I am over the lack of progress we’ve seen from the House and Senate. Let’s hope they get their act together before the mid-terms or they could be in dire straits.
I urge all of you to support our Non-Auction Auction, too. The flyer is in this issue, pages 5 and 6, and is our only large fundraiser of the year in support of the CO House and Senate. They need our help to retain the majority in the Senate and to take back the House!
Of course, the Governor’s and Treasurer’s race is also on the table in 2018 so, hang on to your hats, it’s going to be a rocky road ahead but we need all hands on deck! Get to know your candidates and vet them very well to make sure that they hold the same values and principles that you aspire to. Some good ways to meet them is to attend the local breakfast clubs where they are speaking, attend the fundraisers and forum events, AND attend the DCRW meetings.
If you’re interested in serving DCRW on the Board for 2018-2019, make sure to make your intentions known to the Nominating Committee that will be formed in September.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you on September 20th to hear from former U.S. Ambassador to Bahrain Sam Zakhem. It will be a very informative presentation that you don’t want to miss!
Yours in Freedom and Liberty,
Marsha
