Our luncheon venue, the Lone Tree Golf Club and Hotel, is operated by South Suburban Parks and Recreation. All of their recreational facilities are closed through April 30th, and DCRW’s April meeting has been canceled.

In this time of crisis, our first thought is for your health and safety.  We truly hope that you are safe, healthy and adjusting as best as possible to this new norm. We just wanted to send a note of encouragement in these trying times. It’s community and personal support that really makes a difference. Even though we’re physically cut off from each other, today we are empowered to connect in ways that weren’t possible before. For that we are grateful.

If you are in good shape to deal with the hardships the country is going through right now, use your imagination–there are so many ways to help:

  • Support local businesses: purchase meals for delivery or pick up from local restaurants
  • Learn: Hillsdale College has online courses at no charge
  • Check on friends, family and neighbors: Make phone calls and consider online options for keeping in touch including Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, Microsoft Teams
  • Help the State Party: Leave a message and find out how you may help
  • Demonstrate your Patriotism: Fly your flag!

Americans across the country are looking for their leaders to come together. While our Republican Majority in the US Senate has been focused on putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and the Democrats have focused on playing politics. Politicizing EVERY issue is business as usual for the Democrats. They are so focused on passing their left-wing agenda that they will do whatever it takes – even if that means hurting everyday Americans in the process. Our Senate Majority is committed to doing what is right.

Can you imagine what would happen if we lost the majority in November? There’s going to be a fervor for taking back the Senate this election the way there was taking back the House in the last one. If we do not stand together now, we could lose control of the Senate in November. As our US Senator Cory Gardner says, “Americans are always stronger together. Now is the time for us to use this strength by taking care of one another and, most importantly, ourselves.”

Together, we find ourselves in an extraordinary situation. At some point life will get back to normal, but it may not be the same as it was before. People have been panic buying as they wake up to how unprepared they are for a crisis. Many are rethinking their spending habits and what necessities they should have on hand. Some of these temporary adaptations will become permanent as people discover that they prefer them to old ways of life.

Our President is working very hard to do what is right for each and everyone of us, with those on the left using everything he is doing to try to work against him in the November election. In a new Gallup poll, 49% approve of the job he is doing while 45% disapprove: this approval rating is the highest it has ever been in Gallup surveys.

Douglas County Republicans held a Virtual County Assembly on Saturday with great success. We are strong and when we work together we can accomplish many things for our County, State and Country.

With the cancellation of our April meeting, our next scheduled meeting is May 20th. Perhaps If we continue to keep our distance from one another in the meantime, we’ll be allowed to safely meet face to face.

Until then, keep moving ahead with Faith, Hope and HARD WORK,
Barbara Piper
DCRW President
