I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s! It’s hard to believe how fast 2017 flew by and now we’re coming into the mid-term elections and the political activity will begin to come at us fast and furious. Check out the Calendar for the important dates – Caucus, etc.
We certainly didn’t start the New Year off well with the tragic death of one of our finest men in Blue when 29-year old Douglas Co. Sheriff’s Deputy Zackari Parrish was killed in the line of duty by an ambush when he and other deputies answered a domestic 911 call. What a heartbreaking and needless death! I know we all are devastated by this evil act and our thoughts and prayers go out to Zack’s wife and two young daughters, his parents, extended family, the other deputies and officers who were wounded, and the entire men and women in Blue who are so deeply affected. We will be taking up donations for the DCSO Fallen Officers Fund at the January meeting so please check out the details on the page about Zack in this newsletter. We all love and respect our law enforcement personnel who put their lives on the line each and every day to keep us safe. Please keep Sheriff Tony Spurlock and his great Sheriff’s Office personnel plus all the other agencies involved in your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. We will always remember Zack’s sacrifice.
As you know, we will be installing the new DCRW Board at the January meeting so please plan to attend to welcome and thank them for serving. They will officially take office at the end of the meeting.
As I bring my tenure as your President to an end, this is a last newsletter that I will be helping to produce. I want to thank each and every one of you who have made this time so enjoyable for me. It has been a humbling experience for me to serve you these past six years and I will always hold these memories close to my heart. I’ll still be coming to all the meetings, events, etc., but now I’ll be able to eat my lunch at the same time as everyone else! 🙂
Please note on other pages that there are a number of our members who need our help in various ways. The year 2017 was a hard time for some and we all should do as much as we can to support those in need whenever the occasion arises. We are family!
On the political front, the media is doubling down on their hatred and vitriol of President Trump. It’s truly amazing how vicious they have become and not reporting (except for FoxNews) all the great things that the President has accomplished in his first year, i.e., tax reform, lower regulations, Neil Gorsuch in S/C, lower unemployment, skyrocketing stock market, expanded oil and gas exploration, etc. On the table now will be immigration reform, welfare reform, health care reform, etc. I think that 2018 will be a banner year for Trump and the U.S.! Let’s work together to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at our January 17th meeting where we will hear from COGOP Chairman Jeff Hays on what the Party has planned for this election year and how we can help.
Yours in Freedom and Liberty,
Marsha 🙂
